The growing inequality in the world, between classes and social origins within countries, between countries and regions, and between continents, and as accelerated and profound transformations in the world of work with contradictory, unequal but combined forms (computerization, automation, migration, unemployment, informality, population aging, demographic anemia, health of working populations, training, just to name a few) are inseparable from a joint analysis from the perspective of global studies and the centrality of labour. The ILO and the UN in the 20/30 Agenda consider these two factors (inequality and work) two of the great challenges of the decade, inviting the academy to reflect critically on the main themes, the methodologies of analysis, the main theoretical approaches that involve these challenges.
The Observatory for Living and Working Conditions (OCVT) is a transdisciplinary project that brings together researchers from different areas of knowledge and institutions, with the aim of studying work, health, education, housing, social status, social security and group dynamics. OCVT joins NOVA 4 the Globe to carry out this international conference, which aims to contribute to deepen the discussion around these objectives of a global and transdisciplinary, where we will try to analyze a hypothesis that answers questions that today are central to the world: why there is social inequality? How is it measured? What is the relationship between work and social inequality? How are these related to the crisis of social sustainability, which appears to be political, social, cultural and ecological? What is the impact of these variables on the construction of democracy and on access to the exercise of full citizenship? Is it still possible to think of a “political economy of well-being and happiness” as Bourdieu drew?
