The inauguration ceremony of the two new directors of two of NOVA National School of Public Health (ENSP-NOVA) and NOVA Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine takes place on September 26th, at 2 p.m, at the Rectorate.
The Rector, João Sàágua, will officially appointed Carla Nunes as director of NOVA National School of Public Health (ENSP-NOVA) and Filomeno Fortes as director of NOVA Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Carla Nunes has graduated in Mathematics/Statistical Sciences at the School of Science and Technology of NOVA, and has a PhD from the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon. Professor at ENSP-NOVA since 2005, Carla Nunes has been a professor of Statistics and coordinator of doctoral programs in Public Health and in Global Public Health. Member of the Center for Research in Public Health (CISP) and the Comprehensive Health Research Centre (CHRC), has focused its research in the fields of Statistics and Epidemiology in various areas of public health. In addition to teaching and research, Carla Nunes also performs management functions as Vice-President of the Scientific Council, was a member of the school board and deputy director of ENSP-NOVA.
Filomeno Fortes is an Angolan physician who was elected unanimously on 31 July following an international competition and is the first foreigner to occupy this position in the IHMT. Specialist in Public Health, Epidemiology and Malaria Control and PhD in biomedical sciences, he is currently coordinator of the Doctorate of Biomedical Sciences at the Agostinho Neto University in Luanda and the hygiene unit of the Medical School of Medicine in Angola. He also integrates the International Federation of Tropical Diseases. He has held several prominent positions in Angola, was national director of endemic disease Control, head of the Department of Control of Diseases of the National Directorate of Public Health and Director of the Malaria Control program, among others.
