It is called NIMSB, an acronym for NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology, and presents itself as a new centre of excellence that aims to apply new biomedical and digital technologies and innovative solutions in the field of healthcare. Supported by the European Union (Teaming for Excellence - Horizon Europe), the Portuguese Government and the Municipality of Oeiras, it is the result of a partnership between NOVA and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (Berlin, Germany).
After receiving funding earlier this year, NIMSB aims to become an international centre of excellence, a leader in the development, integration and application of next-generation systems biology approaches, all in the name of medical research and innovation. In doing so, it aims to contribute to the development of early diagnoses and advanced therapeutic solutions that will allow us to deliver true precision medicine to patients. Something that will reduce mortality and improve quality of life, increase the intensity of R&D, promote regional and national socio-economic development and improve Portugal's competitive position in Europe and globally.
Also, NIMSB will work with all NOVA institutes and schools, affiliated hospitals and other partners to achieve critical mass and establish the necessary infrastructure.
The project launch meeting will take place on 23 October, between 14:00 and 18:00, at the Rectory of NOVA, Campolide Campus.
