NOVA Science Day is back for its third edition on September 22, between 9:30 am and 6:00 pm, at the Rectorate of NOVA University Lisbon. This science meeting aims to bring together the NOVA scientific community, as well as to promote the research that is produced at the university.

This year, due to the restrictions imposed by the National General Directorate of Health (Direção Geral de Saúde - DGS) in response to the pandemic by COVID-19, the event will be broadcast in live streaming on NOVA's Youtube channel for the entire academic and scientific community, from the main auditorium of the Rectorate.

NOVA, SUSTAINABILITY AND THE SDGs

The 3rd NOVA Science Meeting will be dedicated to Sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and is divided into two sessions.

  • Morning Session

The morning session will be dedicated to presentations by leading figures in the field of research and innovation, including the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Professor Manuel Heitor; the Director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Engineer Carlos Moedas; the ERC representative in the area of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Dr. Martin Penny; and also the President of the National Innovation Agency (ANI), Professor Eduardo Maldonado, to tell us a little about the new European ecological pact - Green Deal. The meeting will also include the presence of a United Nations representative in Portugal, which will be announced shortly. As in previous editions, the Santander-NOVA 2019/2020 Collaborative Research Award will also be presented in the area of Social Sciences and Humanities.

  • Afternoon Session

During the afternoon there will be brief presentations by nine NOVA researchers who develop research related to Sustainability. The Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Professor João Amaro de Matos, and the Vice-Rector for Health, Professor José Fragata, will also make interventions during the afternoon, respectively on the positioning of NOVA in the international rankings and on the various initiatives and research developed by NOVA to fight the pandemic.

Before closing, a book on photovoltaic energy will be launched by Professor Elvira Fortunato, Professor Rodrigo Martins and Professor Hugo Águas. Vice-Rector for Research, Professor Elvira Fortunato, will be in charge of the closing remarks.
