Christmas is celebrated with all the senses. Lights illuminate the streets and our homes as a symbol of hope and unity. Music awakens memories and carries an emotion that makes us more open to others. Even the cold, the smells and the flavours are distinct at this time of year! Thus, the musicians of the Metropolitana bring music that awakens the senses to this concert.
First, Illuminations, a work from 2017 in which Miguel Azguime developed a poetic articulation between the sound of the orchestra and light, understood in its spectral decomposition. This is followed by Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 3, the last movement of which reminds us of Gioachino Rossini’s operas; it frees us from the shackles of the present and brings smiles to our faces. Finally – and we couldn’t leave them out – the traditional Christmas melodies. Conductor Pedro Neves himself has recreated them with a different ‘dressing’ that premieres here.
Tickets for the NOVA community: 2 per person, upon confirmation by email to relacoespublicas@metropolitana.pt, until 6 p.m. on 16 December.
