NOVA highly ranked by the the most renowned ranking of universities worldwide

NOVA has just been ranked with important classifications by The Times Higher Education, the most prestigious ranking worldwide.

In its 2020 results recently published regarding the performance of  Universities as to their contribution to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations, NOVA was ranked 6th among the Young Universities (that is, universities under 50 years old), in the objective Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9 - build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization) and the Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions  (SDG 16 - promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels) , and 13th in Gender Equality (SDG 5 - Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls).

Relevant ratings were also obtained for the goals of Partnerships for the Goals, #19 (SDG 17 - Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development), Sustainable Cities and Communities #20 (SDG 11 - Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable) e Good Health and Well-Being #23 (SDG 3 - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages) as well as Quality education #23 (SDG 4 - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all).
It is noteworthy that among Portuguese universities NOVA obtained the top rank in the SDG 5 of Gender Equality.

According to the NOVA 2020-2030 Strategic Plan, solving global and complex problems requires a transversal approach to all areas of knowledge and collaboration with all sectors.

For this reason, the strategy of the University included the creation of NOVA 4 The Globe - Institute for Global Development, a center transversal to the whole institution, which promotes the convergence and interdisciplinarity of areas and which is guided by the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
