NOVA University Lisbon honoured once again with the NOVA Young Talent Awards the students who stood out in the 1st year of the Bachelors and Integrated Master Degrees.
The students were awarded a monetary value equal to the amount of the tuition fee, in a ceremony on June 1 at NOVA's Rectory.
The ceremony honored the best students from the 1st year of each of NOVA's 39 Bachelor and Integrated Masters courses in the academic years 2018/2019 and 2019/2020, as well as the respective Secondary Schools of origin, in recognition not only of the commitment and dedication of the students, but also of the basic training that they have enjoyed.
In the words of the Rector, Professor João Sàágua, "At this University, our motto is: “attract talent, reward merit.” And if NOVA is today a university of excellence at national level and a reference among young European universities, it is so because of this mindset, for which we are very proud of and which we will never abdicate." The Rector congratulated the students "for the level of excellence achieved, a good indicator for the future" and also the representatives of the secondary schools "that have successfully fulfilled their mission of preparing students with solid basic knowledge and the capacity to face the requirements and challenges characteristic of a top university like NOVA."
As in previous editions, the ceremony featured a speech by an alumni. This year the speaker was Sara Pinto Ferreira, a former student of the NOVA School of Law, awarded this scholarship for being the best student in the 1st year of the Law course in the 2013/2014 school year. Sara addressed the students to whom she left an inspiring message - "Don't give up. Have confidence in your abilities, look at the world around you, be flexible and don't hesitate to ask questions and ask for help when needed." The full speech is available here (in Portuguese)
