NOVA's Ethics Council takes office in a ceremony at the Rectorate

In the presence of the Rector of NOVA, Professor João Sáágua, the University's Ethics Council took office yesterday, in a ceremony at the Rectorate within the V NOVAsaúde Annual Conference.

The University's Ethics Council is an advisory body to the Rector for ethical questions that may arise within the activities carried out in the University in the fields of scientific research, teaching and university operations. Its mission is to reflect and contribute to a definition of guidelines aiming at consolidating a policy of safeguarding ethical and deontological principles.

This group is composed of 16 members and is chaired by the Vice-Rector of NOVA, Professor José Fragata. In his inaugural speech, the Professor explained that «having an Ethics Council, necessarily within NOVA's culture, may help the mission of the University. This Council may help to resolve dilemmas that involve purchases, wealth management, research or teaching». He also added that its action has the purpose of «making the University more transparent and attractive to business and funding, for being ethically sustainable and totally transparent».
