Rector of NOVA shares some of the projects for the new mandate in an interview with Diário de Notícias

João Sàágua

The Rector of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Professor João Sàágua, gave an interview to Diário de Notícias where he spoke about some of the projects for his second mandate.

Regarding the university's first mission, which is teaching, to train students, he said “And with regard to students, we have an important commitment, which has to do with employment. The aim is for students to be able to have a decent job when they finish their education.” It is with this objective in mind that NOVA will seek to develop in its students specific skills in three fundamental areas: sustainability, digital and entrepreneurship.

The Rector also highlighted a decisive aspect in the next mandate that he identified as “an aggressive policy for inclusion” referring to “... my problem is the people who cannot be left behind. The university is not satisfied with the idea - and here I am talking exclusively about Portuguese families, young people who have talent and desire and who do not study because they do not have the financial means to do so.” Hence, NOVA's approach to the problem has focused on strengthening the Social Welfare Fund. “The Social Welfare Fund, this year, has already been reinforced with 200 thousand euros, but we want to quickly reach one million euros”, said the Rector.
