Data Challenge: 75 thousand euros in prizes for the best solutions in the data area

The Data Challenge is a programme that will support business ideas that develop solutions to industry challenges in the data area.

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa is one of the partners in this programme organized by UPTEC – U.Porto Science and Technology Park and by UC Business of the University of Coimbra, and promoted by Santander Universities.

Altice labs, Bluepharma, Bosch Intelligent Buildings, Prozis, Santander and Sogrape will present management, valuation and data security challenges in six distinct areas: telecom, pharmaceutical industry, smart cities, eCommerce, banking/insurance and supply chain, respectively. Throughout the programme, participants will work on these challenges and develop business ideas that try to solve them.

Open to students, researchers and recent graduates from any University and Polytechnic Institute in the country, the Data Challenge seeks participants from all areas of knowledge, from the humanities and arts to science and engineering.

The Data Challenge prizes amount to 75 thousand euros. In addition to a cash prize of €2,500, the winner of each area has access to incubation – for 4 months – in one of the partner incubation structures and to training in artificial intelligence topics from the I2A2- Institut d'Intelligence Artificielle Appliquée, worth €10,000.

During the programme, which will run from October to December, participants will have the opportunity to attend sessions to share real cases of data capture and use in companies, receive mentoring dedicated to the development of the business idea and attend workshops focused on the development of the pitch structure and value proposition. The programme also includes the promotion of master classes open to the public, with academic and business experts on critical issues in the data area.

Applications for the Data Challenge are open until 3 October and should be submitted through the programme's website. Participation in the programme is free.
