Elvira Fortunato at the «Executiva» Women's Leadership Conference

Elvira Fortunato, Vice-Rector of NOVA is also the leader of the NOVA team in the gender equality project SPEAR.

Last October 25th, the Vice-Rector of NOVA, Elvira Fortunato, participated in the 5th edition of the Women's Leadership Conference of «Executiva», held in Lisbon.

The initiative of the Executiva site gathered several successful women from different professional backgrounds around six structural subjects:

  • The success factors for an international career
  • Leadership challenges: delegate, inspire and manage stress
  • How to transform the culture of organizations?
  • Equal salary for equal work
  • How to get to the company board?
  • The importance of education in the development of new leaders

Invited to participate in the panel about «The importance of education in the development of new leaders», Elvira Fortunato stressed: «As a teacher, I am particularly privileged as I can reach my students at an age when I can still try to make a difference and help shape opinions, deconstructing gender biases.» Professor Elvira Fortunato is currently leader of the NOVA team involved in SPEAR, a H2020 project. SPEAR (Supporting and Implementing Plans for Gender Equality in Academia and Research) includes nine European universities aiming to develop institutional changes, increase women participation in Research and Innovation, and also to improve their career prospects.
