NOVA on the International Sustainability Route - 1st Sustainable Campus Conference

Higher Education Institutions make a commitment to adopt sustainability principles and practices.

On October 31st, 2019, the Vice Rector of NOVA, Professor José Ferreira Machado, and Professor Júlia Seixas of FCT NOVA, participated in the 1st Sustainable Campus Conference (CCS 2019) at the School of Engineering of the University of Porto.

The theme of CCS 2019 was ‘Sustainable Development: Higher Education Institutions as Agents of Change‘.

Inspired by similar activities in several international universities and networks, the initiative aimed to be a moment of reflection and exchange of experiences on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions (HEI).

In the conference, NOVA University Lisbon signed a Letter of Intent that constitutes a commitment to sustainability principles and practices in higher education.

Sustainability is key for NOVA as shown with the creation of the NOVA 4 The Globe - NOVA Institute for Global Development - a strategic initiative that is designed to work as a centre across the institution, promoting collaboration and interdisciplinarity of areas, and guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
