NOVA's athletes had great results in Lisbon University Championships of Basketball and Handvball and in the National University Championships of Athletics and Swimming.
Lisbon University Championships
On March 22, NOVA's male basketball team won the Lisbon University Championship of this sport, after beating the team from ISEG with a result of 70-69. The meeting was remarkable due to NOVA's recovery from a difference of 18 points. Student Francisco Francisco Quadrio Monteiro was also elected the best student in competition during the whole season 2017/2018 and the team was able to guarantee its place in final phase of the national competition, which will take place in Aveiro, in April.
The female basketaball team was placed second in the same Championship, guaranteeing its place in the final phase of the national competition as well. The male's team from AE FCT was also able to qualify for the national competition by beating the team from Técnico and getting the third place.
At the final of the Handball's Lisbon University Championship, which took place on March 21, the female team competed with the team from Universidade de Lisboa and was placed second.
National University Championships
On the National University Championship of Athletics, which took place in Pombal on March 17, three students won a total of four medals. Student Raquel Lourenço won gold at the 60 m hurdles and also the bronze medal in high jump. NOVA also conquered gold at the 400 m with student Jorge Colaço. Athlete Gonçalo Casimiro also had a great performance reaching the silver medal at the 3.000 m. NOVA athletes are now getting ready for the next championships, on April 15 and May 26.
The NOVA swimming team also had a great performance at the Swimming National University Championship, which took place on March 11, in Braga. In total the team won 24 medals (11 gold, 10 bronze and 3 silver ones), having broken several university records as well and achieving the second place as team.
