Professor António Rendas, former Rector of NOVA and former Dean of NOVA Medical School | Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, was distinguished during the Science Meeting 2018 with the Medal for Scientific Merit. Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa gave the medal to the Professor and also to six other Portuguese scientists and promoters of scientific culture.
The Professor was distinguished for his work in several commissions of World's Health Organization, for pushing forward the area of medical education and for boosting the participation of universities in science and its respective articulation with health systems.
The Medals for Scientific Merit are an initiative created by the Portuguese Ministry for Science, Technology and Higher Education that recognize "national figures that for their high professional qualities and line of duty, have distinguished themselves for its exceptional contribute to the development of science and scientific culture in Portugal".
