NOVA awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the President of Colombia

The President of the Republic co-chaired the ceremony that took place in the Auditorium of the Rectory.

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Juan Manuel Santos, President of the Republic of Colombia, in a ceremony that took place in the Rectorate on November 13 and that had the presence of the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. 

Professor António Rendas, former Rector of NOVA, was the Patron of the awardee and gave the laudation, emphasising the persistence of the President of Colombia in the construction of peace, by ending a long armed conflict. 

The Rector of NOVA, Professor João Sàágua, also emphasise the academic collaboration between Portugal and Colombia and the President's dedication to society. In his speech, the Rector mentioned that the attribution of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by Universidade NOVA de Lisboa to Juan Manuel Santos, «attests, through him, the commitment with society that we aim to assume as an institution».
