NOVA Cairo: a very special opening

This is the first campus of a Portuguese university beyond national borders. The adventure for Foundation Programme students starts now

NOVA Cairo had its very special first moment this Sunday, 2nd Oct, with the opening ceremony of the campus, attended by the Rector of NOVA University Lisbon, João Sàágua and a committee worthy of note: João Amaro de Matos, Vice-Rector who coordinates the area of Teaching and International Development, José Júlio Alferes, director of NOVA School of Science and Technology, Miguel Castro Neto, director of NOVA Information Management School, Pedro Brinca, representing the director of Nova School of Business and Economics, and, of course, Francisco Caramelo, the director of NOVA Cairo.

After welcoming the new students, a class that should have their studies finished in 2026, it was time to get to know the outside spaces of the campus, before ending the day with another very particular circumstance.

Backed by Manuela Franco, the ambassador of Portugal in Egypt, the occasion was used to seal the cooperation and sign protocols with the Camões Institute and Tourism of Portugal, through the president and representative of each institution, respectively ambassador João Ribeiro de Almeida and Carlos Abade.
