Professor Helena Canhão took office as Dean of NOVA Medical School

Professor Helena Canhão took office as Dean of NOVA Medical School, on January 20, 2022, in the Auditorium of the Rectorate.

In the ceremony, the Rector of NOVA, Professor João Sàágua, highlighted some characteristics of the new Dean, namely “the enormous institutional sense and the ability to build bridges and find solutions” that will be indispensable to tackle the current and future challenges of NOVA Medical School.

The Faculty Council of NOVA Medical School has elected Helena Canhão on December 14, 2021. She now begins a four-year mandate, until 2025, with the commitment to “to “dignify the name of NOVA Medical School and NOVA University Lisbon with great honour and a sense of mission”.”

Full Professor of Medicine at NOVA Medical School, Helena Canhão is the Coordinator of the Comprehensive Health Research Center (CHRC) of the REAL Associated Laboratory and principal investigator of the EpiDoC Unit, CEDOC, NMS. She is the current President of the Portuguese Society of Rheumatology, President of the Advisory Board of AICIB and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Value for Health Collaborative Laboratory.

Helena Canhão is also a Senior Graduate Hospital Assistant, Head of the Rheumatology Unit at CHULC and Coordinator of Rheumatology at the Hospital CUF Tejo.
