NOVA Medical School/ Faculdade de Ciências Médicas of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NMS| FCM-NOVA) was awarded the Gold Medal for distinguished Services from the Portuguese Ministry of Health, Paulo Macedo, last 22nd of April of 2015.
This prize granted after the conferral ceremony of the award Investigação Colaborativa Santander Totta/ Universidade NOVA de Lisboa to the project based on the later stage of Alzheimer led by Cláudia Almeida, researcher of CEDOC – NMS | FCM.
In the words addressed by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health, Sandra Cavaca, NOVA Medical School/ Faculdade de Ciências Médicas of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa occupies a key position in the training of young medical doctors.
As an innovator, NMS| FCM-NOVA proposed a new model of medical teaching, laying the foundations to a close cooperation with hospitals, mainly the units that are part of Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Central and Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental as well as many others units including basic health care facilities.
Granting a substantial offer of courses and post-graduation programmes as well as in the research field, the faculty also has significant groups of excellence in biomedicine, translational research, clinical research, epidemiology and services.
The first research centre had cronical deseases as its main objective. The opening of the most recent research centre at Campusde Santana has reinforced the pedagogical activities and contributed to the continual development of research. One example is the introductory course for physicians in the research field.
In the medal award ceremony, the Dean of NMS | FCM, Professor Jaime Branco, stated to be honoured to receive this distinction that was the result of the work of all the faculty collaborators: Lecturers, Researchers and non-teaching staff, for the outstanding job which resulted in the thousands of excellent medical doctors and researchers, fully-trained, and for all those who will continue to choose NOVA Medical School | Faculdade de Ciências Médicas of NOVA.
The Dean of NMS|FCM ensured the Ministry of Health that this distinction is an additional encouragement for the continuous improvement of all the work developed till today.
