The Rectorate of NOVA University Lisbon hosted the 4th Annual Meeting of the GAPI Network — Offices for the Promotion of Industrial Property — bringing together 42 organisations from across the country in a session that also marked the 25th anniversary of this key network within Portugal’s innovation ecosystem.
Organised by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), the event was attended by its Chair of the Board of Directors, Ana Margarida Moura Soares Bandeira, and gathered technology centres, business associations, higher education institutions and polytechnics, reinforcing cooperation among network members.
One of the central moments of the meeting was the symbolic renewal of cooperation protocols between INPI and the GAPI Network entities — a gesture that reaffirms the collective commitment to protecting and enhancing industrial property in Portugal, in a particularly significant year for the network.
The programme also featured an intervention by Thijs Spigt, an international expert in Intellectual Property, with experience at the Netherlands Patent Office and an academic background combining Neurobiology and Business Administration. His reflections on the challenges of technology transfer brought an international and interdisciplinary perspective to one of the event’s key themes.
In the closing session, NOVA’s Vice-Rector for Innovation, Value Creation and Global Affairs, Isabel Rocha, highlighted the strategic importance of knowledge and technology transfer, underlining the role of the GAPI Network as a bridge between academia, industry and society.
As an active member of this network, NOVA University Lisbon reaffirmed its commitment to innovation and knowledge valorisation, currently hosting four GAPI offices. Over the past 25 years, the GAPI Network has established itself as a cornerstone of the national innovation system, with recognition at both national and international levels.
