The Times Higher Education (THE), the most prestigious ranking worldwide, ranked NOVA with important classifications in the assessement of universities performance against the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2020 results show a good performance by NOVA among Young Universities, namely in SDG9 "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure", SDG16 "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions" and SDG5 "Gender Equality".
NOVA has joined the Lisbon European Green Capital 2020 - Lisbon Climate Action 2030 commitment. The Rector of NOVA, Professor João Sàágua, attended the official accession ceremony, responding to the challenge launched by the City Council of Lisbon reinforcing its commitment to the UN's SDGs. This initiative brings together about 200 entities, including companies, schools and institutions, around the principles of the Lisbon European Green Capital 2020. In total, more than 2100 actions will be implemented -from waste reduction and separation to sustainable mobility or energy-saving, this will be a joint effort towards environmental sustainability in the city.
NOVA's Campolide Campus joins the international movement #ClimateStrike
Similarly to many global universities, NOVA University Lisbon brought together students, staff, researchers, and faculty at the Campolide Campus on September 27, 2019 for a group photo for Environmental Sustainability.
