ODS 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

Nova University Lisbon actively contributes to tackle the SDG 11 by vigorously engaging with its community to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. NOVA is firmly preserving culture and heritage, and invites the general population to visit its open campus, historical buildings, and museums. NOVA provides affordable housing for students and promotes sustainable commuting.

  • NOVA Cidade – Urban Analytics Lab. Network of people and organizations, representing the various agents and interests that constitute and lead the construction of the smart city, which collaboratively develops a set of activities aimed at promoting the creation and transfer of applied knowledge in the context of urban intelligence.
  • Culture at NOVA - contributing to local arts through university choirs, theatre groups and by delivering projects to record and/or preserve intangible cultural heritage. In addition to its role as an institution of excellence in higher education, NOVA also intends to act as a cultural axis in the city of Lisbon
  • NOVA will build the NOVA Institute of Arts and Technology in Almada. The new facility will give a new life to an old, abandoned prison in Trafaria.

Group of academic and research members performing studies on Cultural Heritage Materials since the 1990's. Studies are mainly in inorganic materials such as metals, ceramics, and glasses. Studies are performed in archaeological and historical materials.

PhD CATAPULT District regeneration - decarbonizing supply chains

Researcher’s summer school under the Climate-KIC programme. The participants developed concrete proposals for the case studies (one in Bologna and the other in Almada), focusing both on the following question: How can cities combine green areas and urban regeneration actions with the decarbonisation of their supply chains?

Located at Nova SBE, in a brand new university campus, this centre will provide cities with practical information, training and solutions, to facilitate the transition to a smarter and more sustainable urban infrastructure.
