Nova University Lisbon contributes to tackle the SDG 16 leading by example, promoting organizacional best practices related to governance. The General Council is the body of strategic decision and supervision and consists of 27 members including teaching staff and researchers, students, non-academic and non-research staff member, and external members of recognised merit with no connection to NOVA. NOVA Community is also a determinant pillar of its action collaborating at a local, national, and global levels towards peace and justice. Through its Academic Units it offers specialized courses, general education, upskilling and capacity-building to policy and lawmakers on relevant topics including economics, law, technology, climate change.

NOVA is a full member of ANSER, an international research platform fostering interaction and knowledge sharing between academics, NGOs and policy makers on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
Strengthening capacity for health research ethics review in Lusophone African Countries by enhancing the efficiency of clinical/health research applications reviews, promoting collaborative/ networking activities in research ethics in Lusophone Countries, and sharing good practices.
