Four NOVA schools have already been recognised for their good environmental practices in the scope of the Eco-Campus, the new programme of the European Blue Flag Association (ABAE) that promotes sustainability in higher education institutions. After NOVA Medical School, an Eco-School since 2015, and NOVA FCSH, already distinguished for the third time with such an award, the FCT NOVA Caparica campus and Nova SBE joined in the latest edition.
Encouraging actions for environmental education and sustainability, the Eco-Campus concept adapts the Eco-Schools methodology, existing in Portugal since 1996, for higher education institutions, equally fundamental to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals – Agenda 2030, promoted by the UN.
To apply, each organic unit presents its environmental management, with images and a description of the campus, followed by a sustainability strategy for three years, involving all services and valences, as well as the sustainable behaviours adopted in its community.
Coordinated at international level by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the Eco-Campus award is valid for three years. Renewable, of course.
