Waste management and the adoption of strategies to increase recycling rates are under the radar of NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA in order to develop an increasingly sustainable campus.
Precisely with the purpose of increasing packaging recycling, the Faculty implemented an initiative that consisted in adopting the Japanese model and proceeding with the removal of undifferentiated waste containers from all spaces and their relocation to the ecopoints island in the corridors.
For now this is a pilot project, applied in two buildings – Building I, mainly with offices and services, and Building VII, mainly with offices and classrooms, having covered in total about 40 classrooms, more than 30 faculty offices and more than 30 service spaces.
In order to be successful, recycling demands for the essential involvement and joint effort of the whole community. This pilot project is expected to impact more than one thousand people per semester.
