GENERAL COUNCIL
The General Council is the body of strategic decisions and supervision of NOVA University Lisbon.
The General Council consists of 27 members – 14 teaching staff and researchers, 4 students, 1 non-academic and non-research staff member and 8 external members of recognised merit with no connection to NOVA, and with relevant experience and knowledge, co-opted by the elected members.

Doutorado em Filosofia Contemporânea, é Professor Catedrático da Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da NOVA (FCSH/NOVA).

The Board of Deans is a body of consultation and support to the Rector in the management of NOVA University Lisbon, ensuring a permanent link between the central government and the government of the university’s units. Disciplinary Council
The Disciplinary Council is the advisory body of NOVA for disciplinary matters. The Disciplinary Council is composed of three teaching staff or researchers, chosen by the Rector; one non-teaching staff member, appointed by the Administrator of NOVA; and a student, appointed by the Student Council.

Ethics Council
The Ethics Council of NOVA University Lisbon is an advisory body of the Rector for the ethical issues raised by the activities developed at NOVA University Lisbon in the fields of scientific research, teaching, university extension and operations in general.
Its mission is to promote reflection and contribute to the definition of guidelines aimed at consolidating a policy of safeguarding ethical and deontological principles in the areas of scientific research, teaching, interaction with society and the general functioning of the University.
The Ethics Council develops its mission based on respect for the dignity of the human person and framed by other principles defined in Articles 2 and 3 of the Statutes of the NOVA University Lisbon.

Strategic Research Council
The Strategic Research Council (Conselho Estratégico de Investigação – CEI) is an advisory body to the Rector and aims to promote research in interdisciplinary areas and provide ideal conditions for collaborative research and enhance impact, aligned with both the European Agenda for Knowledge and Innovation and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The CEI is chaired by the Vice-Rector for Research and includes representatives from all of NOVA’s academic units, recognised for their competence in scientific and technological research.
The Council’s creation was approved by the Board of Deans on 20 February 2020 and is currently composed by the following members:

Value Creation Council
The Value Creation Council is an advisory body to the Rector on issues related to the University’s Third Mission, namely for the social and economic knowledge valorisation in the context of innovation and entrepreneurship University activities. Its mission is to promote reflection and contribute to define strategic orientations towards a policy of socioeconomic valorization of knowledge and a closer relationship with companies and society. Professor Isabel Rocha, Vice-Rector of NOVA, is also the President of the Value Creation Council, which is formed by representatives of all NOVA Schools, recognized by their expertise in innovation, value creation and entrepreneurship.

Council for the Advancement of NOVA
The Council for the Advancement of NOVA (the Council) is an advisory body of the Rector, created by the Rector’s Order under Article 21, number 6, of the NOVA University Lisbon Statutes, with the following powers:
a. Provide advice on the University’s strategic development plans;
b. To be mandatorily consulted about the University’s FundRaising strategy and its execution;
c. To comment on other matters at the request of the Rector.

Quality Council
The Quality Council is made up of the member of the Rector’s team responsible for quality and the deputy directors of the organic units responsible for quality. The Quality Council may also invite persons of recognised merit and/or NOVA students if deemed relevant.
This Council is responsible, among other things, for contributing to the definition of institutional policies and strategic objectives for quality, reviewing NOVA’s quality policy whenever necessary, and promoting the culture of quality at NOVA.
