15 de October, 2024

The week dedicated to sustainability started at the rectory of NOVA University Lisbon and now goes on in the different organic units. Read more here.

“We have in our Faculties, Institutes and Schools the knowledge, the talent and the capacity to collaborate, to take on and to successfully face the challenges of sustainability. The existence of these resources is a competitive advantage, a differentiating brand and, above all, a duty. A duty of scientific and academic citizenship that fulfils our responsibility and our mission to serve society more and better through knowledge and to be on the right side of history”, said João Sáágua, Rector of NOVA University Lisbon, at the beginning of the conference that opened these NOVA Sustainability Days 2024 on Monday 14th and will continue until the end of the week.

With a programme that reaffirms NOVA’s commitment to debate and reflect on global challenges in the light of the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, the reflection began with the contribution of universities to the quality of democracy and, soon after, their role in terms of inequalities, inclusion and human rights.

The afternoon was dedicated to the presentation of NOVA’s roadmap towards carbon neutrality and climate resilience. Júlia Seixas stressed the importance of adopting policies and actions that involve the community. “Universities must lead by example”.

The full sessions can be viewed or replayed  here.

The programme continues during the rest of the week with different events in the different organisational units of NOVA.
