NOVA hosted meetings of the MP4 – Mindfulness project, which aims to promote mental health in higher education

21 de October, 2024

The University collaborated in an international consortium to develop pedagogical resources and guidelines to integrate mindfulness practices in an academic environment.

The Rectory of NOVA University Lisbon hosted the final meetings of the MP4 Mindfulness project consortium, which includes the non-profit association Know Yourself, LaSalle University, Vilnius University, Università degli Studi Roma Tre, Consorzio Scuola Comunità Impresa, the association Ocak Izi Dernegi and also the Network of Universities of European Capitals (UNICA).

The first meeting, held on the 3rd and 4th of October, evaluated the progress of the main results of the project, in particular the development of the SIT4Planet course, an innovative curriculum that will be available on the Moodle platform of La Salle University.

Designed for students and teachers, this SIT4Planet will be available in several languages – English, Portuguese, French, Italian, Lithuanian and Turkish – and will include comprehensive teaching resources.

Another important legacy of MP4 – Mindfulness will be the creation of a Recommendations Document for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to guide the integration of mindfulness practices in higher education, with the aim of promoting emotional and mental well-being in the academic environment.

In a second part, which took place on the 15th of October, the project coordinator at NOVA, Antje Disterheft, presented the results achieved so far; there was a round table on the 3 central themes of the SIT4PLANET course – climate justice, art and sustainability, and leadership; and also a workshop in which topics such as mental health, what mindfulness is and how it can be applied in higher education were explored.
