SDSN Portugal was established in 2023 through the initiative of NOVA, CEiiA, and the Instituto Marquês de Valle Flor. Its goal is to mobilize universities, research centers, knowledge networks, civil society organizations, and businesses to collaborate and create synergies that promote transformative solutions, accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the goals of the Paris Agreement. SDSN Portugal is the national network of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) that works under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General and is chaired by Prof. Jeffrey Sachs from Columbia University
SDSN Portugal has promoted various initiatives to consolidate the implementation of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda at national level. One key milestone is the creation of three working groups on topics relevant to the Summit of the Future to be held in New York, and the organisation of the International Conference ‘Paving the Way to the Pact of the Future’, attended by more than 500 people.
One year on, SDSN Portugal has 26 members from all over the country, a group of partners with whom it is establishing co-operation protocols and the necessary conditions to pursue its purpose within Portuguese society.
SDG target 17.16- Enhance the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, complemented by multi-stakeholder partnerships that mobilize and share knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources, to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in all countries, in particular developing countries.
