NOVA University Lisbon officially launches its participation in Expo 2025 in Osaka.

This Saturday, 26 July, NOVA University Lisbon marks the official start of its participation in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan – a significant milestone in affirming its international presence.

The opening ceremony took place this morning and was attended by the Rector of NOVA, João Sàágua, Vice-Rector João Amaro de Matos, and Pro-Rector José Branco. The occasion was highlighted by the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), further strengthening ties between Portugal and Japan.

As the Rector emphasised, “this moment symbolises a new chapter in Portuguese-Japanese academic cooperation, paving the way for research networks, student exchanges, and joint projects that will benefit the entire academic community.”

Also present at the ceremony were the Portuguese Ambassador to Japan, Gilberto Jerónimo, the Commissioner-General for Portugal’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, Joana Gomes Cardoso, and the Director of the Portugal Pavilion, Bernardo Amaral.

Through this participation, NOVA reaffirms its role as a global and civic university, committed to knowledge, innovation, and the future.
