NOVA University Lisbon has once again stood out on the global research stage, with a record 105 researchers included in the latest edition of the prestigious World’s Top 2% Scientists Ranking, published annually by Stanford University.
This ranking, based on the Scopus database, identifies the 2% of the most cited scientists worldwide across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields. It is published in two separate lists: one accounting for citations over the researcher’s entire career, and another focusing on citations from the past year (2024). Both use standardised metrics to ensure accuracy and to minimise practices such as excessive self-citation.
This year, NOVA has recorded a 22% increase compared with last year’s results (86 researchers were included in 2024), consolidating a growth trend over the past five years. Never before have so many NOVA researchers been recognised in this ranking, strengthening the University’s position as an international scientific reference.
In the career list, NOVA features 55 researchers (up from 47 in 2023). In the one-year list, there are 82 researchers (70 in 2023).
