Professor Manuel Vilares is a retired Full Professor at the school he was the founder of, as well as its first Dean (1990-1997).

He was the Chairman of the Commission for restructuring the National Statistical System as well as Chairman of the Board of the National Statistics Institute.

Up until very recently, Professor Manuel Vilares was a Senior Consultant at the Board of Banco de Portugal, and was also Senior Counsellor of the European Comission for statistical matters and economic matters at TACIS, a programme which aims to favour the transition towards a market economy and strenghten democracy and the rule of law in the partner states of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Throughout the years, Professor Manuel Vilares has coordinated different projects, with the most recent one being developed by an European Consortium: “Measuring the Cultural and Creative Sectors in the EU”.
