European Researchers’ Night will return in 2025 to celebrate science in over 460 cities across 25 European countries. On 26 September, over 1.5 million people will have the opportunity to explore the world of scientific research through games, experiments, lectures and interactive activities at museums, universities and research centres.
This annual event brings researchers closer to society, promoting scientific excellence and sparking young people’s interest in science careers. NOVA will also be present in both Lisbon and Oeiras.
NOVA FCT will be in Lisbon, with activities taking place at the National Museum of Natural History and Science, the Lisbon Botanical Garden and the Príncipe Real Garden. The programme, which can be found here, includes lectures, games and demonstrations showcasing the quality and diversity of research conducted at the institution
ITQB NOVA will be at Marina de Oeiras with more than 35 other institutions, all of which have prepared activities for all ages. As the event website announces, visitors will be able to chat with scientists, take part in scientific challenges, enjoy magic and music shows, and discover the best of research conducted in Portugal.
IHMT NOVA will be present in two distinct spaces. According to the programme, it will be at the Medical Microbiology Teaching and Research Unit at Marina de Oeiras and the Medical Parasitology Teaching and Research Unit and MosquitoWeb platform at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Centro Ciência Viva.
As for NOVA Medical School, its activities can be found in three different locations: the Museum of Natural History and Science (with “Biomedical research: from everyone to everyone” and “How sustainable are you?”); the Marina de Oeiras (with “What is the effect of various foods on the intestinal microbiota?”); and the Pavilion of Knowledge (with “The body in dialogue: metabolism, brain and emotions at play”). You can view the full programme here.
The initiative also includes the participation of NOVA FCSH, with activities taking place in Lisbon and Évora. In Lisbon, the Center for Humanities (CHAM) will present ‘ANIMALx’ at the Knowledge Pavilion. At MUHNAC (the National Museum of Natural History), ‘Peoples and Cultures’, the ‘EDGES’ itinerary and ‘Sea Monsters’, which focuses on oceans, animals and cultures, will be shown. CESEM (the Center for Music Studies) will also be showing a work on old magnetic tape recordings at MUHNAC. In Évora, CESEM is organising the ‘Listen to Évora’ soundwalk and the IHC (Institute of Contemporary History) is presenting the PHONLAB and KNOW.AFRICA projects at Praça 1º de Maio (1 May Square), which will include a visit to the Public Garden and music inspired by a 19^(th)-century expedition to Angola.
