The Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra presents the concert “Listen Twice – The Conductor” on Saturday, 22 November, at 3:00 p.m., in the Auditorium of the Rectory of NOVA University Lisbon. Designed especially for families, this concert invites the audience to discover the role of the conductor in musical interpretation and in leading an orchestra.
Like a captain steering his ship, the conductor takes to the podium to lead the musicians, guiding them through the score with precise and expressive gestures. Everyone knows what to do, but it is in his presence that the unity and emotion of the music is built. They play fast, then slower; softly like the flight of an eagle or with the force of a thunderstorm. Regardless of the intensity, they always play together, with the same energy and intention.
Directed and narrated by conductor Pedro Neves, the programme includes excerpts from Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 7, Incomplete, and Rendering, a work by Luciano Berio based on sketches left by Schubert for his tenth symphony.
The concert lasts approximately 60 minutes and is a unique opportunity for all ages to learn more about the world of orchestral music and the fundamental role of the conductor in its creation.
