Cites are defined by their topography. In the case of Lisbon, we tend to value the seven hills, but on this tour, we’re going to focus on the Alcântara Valley. Starring outside as the city’s limit, the Valley has consolidated itself as a fundamental axis. A visit to the Águas Livres Aqueduct will help you visualize and discuss the various functions of the valley, from its natural function as a water drainage system to the setting for industrial development and the implementation of important public policies and technical advances, of which the great ogival arch, the largest built in stone in the world, is just the most example.
Please note: Entry to the Aqueduto das Águas Livres costs €3. Admission must be purchased individually on the day.
