The Arab and Islamic occupation of the Iberian Peninsula took place between the 8th and 12th centuries. While it did not extend to the entire territory and was not homogeneous, Lisbon was one of the places where the Arab presence was significant. Christians, who date back to the time of the Roman Empire, have continued to live here under Islamic rule. Did you know that they mostly kept their own practices and customs while adopting Arab culture? This community became known as the Mozarabs, and on this tour, we will explore their spaces and way of life in an Islamised Lisbon.

Guided by Ana Fernandes Pinto, researcher at CHAM – NOVA FCSH, the tours are free and in English, and only require prior registration using the form on the NOVA Cultura website.
