The Rector of NOVA, João Sàágua, attended the roundtable “Vision of Ibero-American Universities in a Globalised World,” held on 11 October 2024 at the University of València.

The event brought together academic leaders from various Ibero-American universities to discuss the role of higher education institutions in a constantly evolving society.

Key topics included the universities’ responsibilities in addressing technological, economic, social, and cultural advances, as well as the need for adequate public funding to ensure the quality and competitiveness of these institutions. The growing importance of virtual education, accelerated by the 2020 pandemic, and its impact on university systems were also discussed.

The discussion also touched upon the role of universities as engines of social mobility and the potential of partnerships between Ibero-American universities to tackle global challenges.

The event provided an opportunity for academic leaders to reflect on the necessary strategies to ensure that universities remain agents of change and innovation in an increasingly globalised knowledge and talent landscape.
