Emília Monteiro is a Full Professor of Pharmacology at NOVA Medical School. She earned her medical degree from the University of Navarra and holds a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Porto.
For ten years, she served as Vice-Director and President of the Pedagogical Council at NOVA Medical School. She has chaired several evaluation committees for A3ES (Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education).
She has led multiple initiatives aimed at strengthening clinical research capacity, including serving as Co-Director of the PTCSRT program (FCT–Harvard Medical School), founding the Master’s in Clinical Research Management at NOVA University Lisbon, establishing NOVA CRU, and initiating the creation of COLABTrials. She also founded PtCRIN, the Portuguese clinical research infrastructure integrated into the Landmark ECRIN-ERIC network.
She was President of the Portuguese Society of Pharmacology, served on the Scientific Council of the Agence Nationale de Sécurité du Médicament et des Produits de Santé (France), and was a member of the Ethics Committee for Clinical Research (CEIC).
