Isabel Rocha is Principal Investigator at ITQB NOVA, where she leads a research laboratory. She holds a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of Minho and completed postdoctoral research at DTU (Denmark). Her research in Biotechnology spans Bioinformatics, Metabolic Engineering, Synthetic and Systems Biology, and she has authored over 140 full-length scientific publications. She was the scientific coordinator of several projects, including Shikifactory100 (Shikifactory100.eu), and served as Portugal’s national representative in the European Bioinformatics Infrastructure (ELIXIR).
In 2007, she was a visiting professor at MIT, USA, as part of the MIT–Portugal Program, and from 2007 to 2017, she led the i-teams innovation education program involving four universities. She served as President of P-Bio and co-founded the companies Biotempo and SilicoLife.
Professor Isabel Rocha was also Chair of the Board of Directors of CoLab InnovPlantProtect and currently serves as Vice-President of CoLab BIOREF and of Madan Parque, NOVA’s technology-based incubator.
