Júlia Seixas

Pro-Rector for Sustainability

Professor Júlia Seixas is Full Professor at the NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT), where she previously served as Chair of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (DCEA), was a member of the Scientific Council, and currently serves on the Ethics Committee. She has held the position of Pro-Rector for Sustainability at NOVA University Lisbon since 2021.

She coordinated the Energy & Climate group at CENSE (2008–2021), dedicated to research on climate neutrality and energy systems. She has authored around 80 publications and has coordinated or participated in over 20 nationally and internationally funded competitive research projects. She leads policy-support studies in climate mitigation, which have contributed to more than a dozen legislative instruments, including the Long-Term Strategy for Carbon Neutrality of the Portuguese Economy by 2050, submitted to the UNFCCC.

She coordinates the Doctoral Programme in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies and previously led the Climate-KIC Hub Portugal (2016–2021), where she directed education and innovation programmes. She is an independent expert on the National Monitoring Committee for the Recovery and Resilience Plan and a Fellow of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering.
She is passionate about mentoring young people in climate action and sustainability.
