Paulo Pereira

The Rector is the highest governing and external representative body of the university. They lead the institution’s strategic direction and chair the Management Council.

Paulo Pereira is the Rector of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA).

Paulo Pereira is Coordinating Researcher at the NOVA Medical School, where he has led high-impact national and international projects and currently coordinates the iNOVA4Health research unit, dedicated to biomedical and translational research.

In the field of education, he founded and directs the international master’s programme NBR – NOVA Biomedical Research, recognized for its innovative pedagogical model. He has also been involved in the development of doctoral programmes and teaches several curricular units. He studied at the University of Coimbra and furthered his academic training at UCL (London) and Tufts University (Boston).

Throughout his career, he has held various positions in collegiate and management bodies, presided over research institutes, represented Portugal in several international organizations, and served as Vice-President of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (2012–2015).

Widely respected by the academic community for his experience and dedication, Paulo Pereira now assumes the role of Rector of NOVA University Lisbon with a renewed sense of mission: to consolidate the University as an internationally recognized institution — a university of excellence that generates and mobilizes knowledge for the benefit of society, innovates in education, and projects itself globally.
