EUTOPIA MORE Hackathon Highlights Innovation at NOVA

27 de May, 2025

From May 5 to 9, NOVA University Lisbon hosted the EUTOPIA MORE Innovation Challenges for Researchers, an international initiative that brought together 17 researchers from seven universities of the EUTOPIA alliance for an intensive week of collaborative work dedicated to the theme of the Ocean.

Part of the EUTOPIA MORE project, the event challenged participants to design innovative solutions for real-world problems presented by industry partners: Oceano Fresco, BlueOASIS, and Ocean Community. Working in multidisciplinary teams, the researchers combined knowledge from diverse scientific fields and institutions in an environment that fostered experimentation and co-creation.

The programme featured hands-on sessions, expert talks on the latest trends in the blue economy, and visits to key innovation ecosystems, including the NOVA Innovation & Analytics Lab (NOVA IMS), the Haddad Entrepreneurship Institute (NOVA SBE), and Fórum Oceano.

The week concluded with a public presentation of the solutions developed, showcasing creative, tech-driven proposals with strong practical potential to address emerging challenges in ocean-related sectors — a strategic area for both NOVA’s scientific community and the city.
