Yesterday, NOVA inaugurated the sports center located at NOVA School of Science and Technology in Monte da Caparica. This new SASNOVA equipment creates the best conditions for the practice of the collective sports that are currently most sought after by FCT NOVA students: 5-a-side Football, Handball, Basketball, Volleyball and Tennis.
The construction of the sports center corresponds to the first phase of development of the announced project to create a Sports Club NOVA for students and local community, as a result of the partnership recently established with RacketsPro.
According to the Rector, Professor João Sàágua, “this sports center responds to a clear need of students and materializes the University’s commitment to sport as a strategic axis of life on NOVA campuses. In addition to promoting a healthy lifestyle, sport presents common values to those of NOVA: healthy competition, fair play and teamwork. With this infrastructure, we start the future Nova Sports Club, a project that will promote the practice of sports by our students but also by the local community.”
By 2030, NOVA will make university life more complete and enriching, raising the quality of life on its campuses. At this level, sports play a fundamental role in promoting leisure, evasion and a healthy lifestyle, open to the community.
Sports are currently a strong area of NOVA, especially in the area of competition, with NOVA students being the most distinguished and awarded in the Portuguese university context. At FCT NOVA alone, the University has more than 150 athletes competing annually.
