NOVA University Lisbon attended EUTOPIA Week 2025, held at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom from 30 June to 4 July. The meeting, which took place under the theme of ‘Creating Global Connections’, brought together the ten European universities of the EUTOPIA alliance and six global partners. The aim was to promote international collaboration, student engagement, and the sharing of good practices between institutions.
Several activities were held during the week, including debate sessions, student-led workshops and cultural events. A particular highlight was the official dinner held at Coventry Cathedral, where British MP Taiwo Owatemi delivered a speech highlighting the University of Warwick’s role in innovation and regional development.
NOVA was also represented at a session dedicated to the theme ‘Innovation, Universities and AI’, where the impact of artificial intelligence on higher education was discussed. This discussion was attended by representatives from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Arizona State University, and NOVA itself and was moderated by John Higgins CBE. Concrete examples of AI applications were presented, including diagnostic tools for medical students, virtual assistants for student support, and solutions for research data analysis.
José Manuel Durão Barroso, former President of the European Commission, also attended the event and reflected on the role of universities in promoting international cooperation and responding to the challenges of global populism.
NOVA’s participation further strengthens its commitment to innovation, internationalisation, and fostering a more interconnected and inclusive European university community.
