This summer of 2025 will forever be remembered by the NOVA Formula Student team. With the support of the Route Zero – project that is laying the foundations for the university’s carbon neutrality – NOVA students achieved remarkable results in two of the most prestigious international university automotive engineering competitions: Formula Student Portugal and Formula Student Spain.
At the national competition, held in August, the team presented the concept for their future electric car and secured 1st place overall in Class 2. This achievement was further strengthened by top rankings in the static events, where they won 1st place in the Business Plan Presentation, 3rd place in Cost and Manufacturing, and 1st place in Engineering Design.
In Spain, competing with their combustion car, the team made their debut in the dynamic events and achieved 9th place overall, with solid results that reflect their progress: 2nd place in the Business Plan Presentation, 5th place in both Cost and Manufacturing and Engineering Design, 6th place in Acceleration, and 8th place in Autocross.
More than the awards, these competitions represented moments of learning, resilience, and confidence in the future. They also marked a symbolic transition: the team’s final participation with a combustion vehicle. Now, the team is fully embracing the challenge of electric mobility.
The NOVA Formula Student project, whose history and other achievements we have already recounted here, is developed by over 60 students from NOVA FCT, NOVA FCSH, and NOVA IMS, who dedicate their free time to the design, construction, and optimisation of competition vehicles. The team is multidisciplinary and includes around ten female students, reflecting the inclusive and collaborative spirit of the University.
Created in the United States and adopted by Europe since 1998, Formula Student coffers students a unique opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical and competitive environment.
