Following the success of the European SECURE project, NOVA University Lisbon is reinforcing its commitment to promoting research careers by participating as a pilot institution in the SECURE2 – Sustainable Careers for Research Empowerment project. This project aims to test and implement the recommendations of the European Research Career Framework (RCF), supporting the career progression and mobility of researchers.
The project kick-off meeting took place on 15 and 16 September in Sarajevo, bringing together the eighteen members of the consortium to discuss and define the next stages of work.
Like its predecessor, SECURE 2’s main objectives are to reduce precariousness and improve research careers. SECURE identified obstacles (national, institutional or cultural) in the policies and processes of recruitment, mobility, training, development and career progression of researchers, and developed an RCF based on these findings.
By fostering dialogue, testing concrete interventions and sharing results across Europe, SECURE2 aims to turn ideas into action, contributing to a more sustainable, attractive and empowered research ecosystem.
NOVA is proud to be part of this network and, in the initial phase of the project, will focus on identifying areas for intervention in order to implement an institutional action plan in line with the main recommendations of the RCF. Collective institutional efforts should contribute to obtaining the European Commission’s HR Excellence in Research label and to developing a more attractive scientific research ecosystem at NOVA, in line with the best practices of leading institutions and the latest European policies.
