The School of Postgraduate Studies in Health will be joined in the future by the NOVA Medical School.

The first School of Postgraduate Studies in Health in Portugal, of which NOVA Medical School is a founding academic member, will be born in the NOVA Health Campus, on the site of the former Dr. José de Almeida Orthopaedic Hospital, in Carcavelos. This work is part of the project to create the future Health Campus, which will also include the NOVA Medical School.

The first stone of the headquarters building of AHED – Advanced Health Education, was laid on 12 October. The ceremony, which symbolically included the planting of a tree on the site, was attended by Elvira Fortunato, Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Pizarro, Minister of Health, Carlos Carreiras, Mayor of Cascais, João Sàágua, Rector of NOVA, Helena Canhão, the Dean of NOVA Medical School, and representatives of the founding institutions of AHED – Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, CUF and the National Association of Pharmacies.

With around 50 courses with a strong practical content, in the most varied areas, using new techniques and technologies, AHED will enable doctors and healthcare professionals to update their knowledge throughout their lives, filling an existing gap in Portugal and in Europe.

The Rector, João Sàágua, highlighted the great impact potential of this project, both nationally and internationally, “due to its openness to society and its mission to contribute to the health and well-being of the population through training of excellence”.

AHED is the result of a partnership signed in 2019 between NOVA University Lisbon, CUF, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisbon, the National Association of Pharmacies and the Municipality of Cascais.
