Last Friday, NOVA University Lisbon’s rectorate hosted a high-level meeting of Cleantech for Iberia, a strategic initiative that aims to establish the Iberian Peninsula as a European leader in clean technologies and green reindustrialisation. As the only Portuguese higher education institution involved in the coalition, alongside IE University in Spain, NOVA reinforced its role as a key academic partner.
The meeting brought together key figures from the Portuguese government, including Minister for State Reform Gonçalo Matias and Secretary of State for Energy Jean Barroca, as well as representatives from the industry, investment and innovation sectors.
Launched at Web Summit 2023, Cleantech for Iberia aims to accelerate decarbonisation and foster a sustainable and competitive industrial ecosystem across the region. The coalition comprises universities, incubators, banks, family offices, and technology companies that are committed to developing local value chains and ensuring that renewable energy is produced, transformed, and consumed within the region, thereby creating qualified jobs and driving technological innovation.
NOVA University Lisbon has played an active role in this initiative. In 2023, it took part in the official launch in Madrid, thereby strengthening its dedication to devising novel solutions to Europe’s energy and environmental issues.
