The meeting will take place on the 17th and 18th of June, at the Ismaili Centre, in Lisbon.
SDSN Portugal, a national network dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) chaired by NOVA, is organising its first conference entitled “Paving the way to the Pact of the Future”, to discuss and find solutions to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
With the 2030 deadline fast approaching and many goals still to be achieved, the conference will focus on understanding the reasons for delays and exploring ways to accelerate progress. Three major debates will mark the event:
Education and innovation for the SDGs: Is the current education model sufficient to foster the professional practices and innovation needed to achieve the SDGs?
Youth inclusion: Can the active participation of young people in decision-making processes be a decisive factor for the success of the SDGs?
Measuring development: Is GDP an appropriate measure to assess countries’ social development and natural capital, which are essential components of several SDGs?
The conference is structured to make a significant contribution to the UN Summit of the Future, which will take place in New York on 22 and 23 September 2024. The conference will feature several prominent national and international speakers, including Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Columbia University; Elisa Ferreira, European Commissioner; Maria João Rodrigues, President of FEPS; Massamba Thioye, Director of the UN Climate Change Innovation Hub; David Donoghue, former Irish Ambassador to the UN and Negotiator of the Irish Peace Process.
In addition to the presentations, the Sustainable Development Report 2024, produced by the UN SDSN, will be launched.
