NOVA Research Portal is a public portal that showcases the Science developed at NOVA, allowing the public and the national and international scientific community to learn about the academic units, research units and their researchers who build and promote knowledge at NOVA.
We invite you to search by individual Researcher profile, Unit, Concept, SDG or free text to discover our scientific community and the areas in which they create knowledge, as well as the various research specializations. It is also possible to visualize the collaborative networks originating from the synergies generated within the University.
NOVA Research Portal is the public platform that displays the content managed by the research information management system (PURE) implemented at NOVA, enhancing the visibility and transparency of the research conducted at the University.
This overview supports the dissemination of NOVA’s research and facilitates its sharing both within and outside the institution, fostering new connections and collaborations within the scientific and academic community.
PURE is NOVA’s CRIS system (Current Research Information System) and feeds the data displayed at NOVA Research Portal.
This system, with the support of researchers and a network of technical specialists, collects information related to the University’s research outputs.
PURE consolidates data on the research outputs of NOVA’s research teams, showcasing their work to the public in the form of publications and activities, as well as societal impact through media coverage and awards received by the community.
If you are part of the NOVA’s research community and would like to learn more about the content displayed on the portal, we suggest contacting the local support teams (please check the contact of your unit below) to obtain information on how to actively participate in this project.
Additional features are also being developed and made available regularly, always with the goal of making it easier for researchers to manage their research data. Researchers can create and manage a Curriculum Vitae, establish connections between various types of content, with the goal of providing a comprehensive view at multiple levels: individual, department, research unit, academic unit and University.
- How to request individual access to PURE
All NOVA researchers can have their research outputs in PURE and benefit from an individual profile to display their data on the NOVA Research Portal.
The assignment of user accounts at NOVA, under the system’s subscription, is limited. Therefore, the personal area that allows researchers to independently upload their research outputs in their individual PURE profile is assigned in accordance with the guidelines defined by each Academic Unit. The Academic Units are responsible for this assignment, aligned with internal best practices, by providing user accounts to researchers with regular research outputs.
For those who do not yet have this individual and autonomous access, the uploading of their research outputs is managed by the local Pure Editor, who you can contact whenever necessary.
Therefore, if you wish to learn how to gain access to Pure, you should reach out to your local Pure Editor (check contacts below).
- How to access PURE
NOVA researchers can have access to an individual PURE profile.
If you have been provided with an access by your PURE editor, you can access PURE using your institutional e-mail and the same credentials you use internally at your Academic Unit, by following the link below:
Login (Access reserved to NOVA researchers)
If you have any questions regarding your credentials or if you forgot your password, please contact your local IT support.

Guidelines for a correct affiliation of NOVA’s Academic Units in publications
PURE offers several tools and functionalities that enable the curation and management of research information, allowing the creation of reports at various levels within NOVA and the reuse of existing data in PURE for each researcher.
In line with international best practices, a researcher should interact with only one system, with data reuse for other national and international systems being carried out automatically and with minimal user intervention.
PURE is also the main source of research information that feeds internal websites within each academic unit of NOVA, particularly through the API synchronization of publication lists and personalized researcher profiles.
NOVA’s Institutional Repository aims to collect, store, manage, preserve, and provide access to the intellectual output of NOVA.
The mandatory upload and validation of research outputs in PURE enables a daily automated process in which all documents uploaded into PURE are then sent automatically to RUN.
This ensures compliance with the open access mandate, because publications validated as Open Access in PURE are synced with RUN (and the national RCAAP network) and the European Commission OpenAIRE.
Master and PhD theses must be deposited directly in RUN to comply with the national policy.
PURE is interoperable with ORCID (get to know the advantages), because NOVA users benefit from an organizational member subscription. This subscription allows for PURE content to be exported to ORCID. By doing so, NOVA researchers are also connected with Ciência Vitae – national CV platform, by allowing NOVA researchers to update their Ciência Vitae profile with ORCID data (please check the support manual).
Scopus is a database that indexes research output, allowing for the search and analysis of scientific results across various fields and institutions.
All members of NOVA’s community have access to an individual Scopus subscription. Each user must authenticate individually through the link above. The first access must be done under the range of a NOVA IP address.
In this context, and given the adoption of this database at NOVA, we recommend its use as the preferred source for importing data into PURE. The subscription enables the import of more and higher quality metadata, improving the information in the system as well as in other systems that are interoperable with PURE: NOVA Research Portal, RUN, NOVA websites and other integrations.
How to improve your individual Scopus profile
Scopus provides a tool that allows users to autonomously improve and correct errors in their individual researcher profile: «Author Feedback Wizard».
If you need assistance with this process, you can contact your local Pure editor (check contacts below).
- How can I have access to SciVal
SciVal is the official platform for producing bibliometric analyses at NOVA, providing data for strategic reports and to support decision-making.
NOVA’s community has access to an individual SciVal subscription, allowing each researcher to gain access to the bibliometric profile of institutions indexed in Scopus as well as their own profile and the analyses of the content indexed in the same database. You must authenticate by creating an individual login in the link above. The first access must be done under the range of a NOVA IP address.
- Bibliometrics at NOVA
All bibliometric analyses at NOVA are based on the publications validated by NOVA Academic Units in PURE, with specific bibliometric periods and indicators, which can be accessed in the Research Information Management Policy [page 7] and follow the information cycle below:
DOI – “Digital Object Identifier” is a persistent and interoperable digital identifier for objects. Its form is alphanumeric, with a prefix and suffix, that functions as a persistent and univocal link to the object and its information.
For the assignment of a DOI, descriptive fields are filled in, facilitating indexing and searching, increasing retrieval and visibility of digital objects on the web.
NOVA has a free DOI minting service, within the scope of the Foundation for Science and Technology protocol with the DataCite agency.
