Known as Fiocruz, it is one of the oldest and most relevant public health institutions in Brazil and throughout Latin America.
On September 24, NOVA received a delegation from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) with the aim of reinforcing and coordinating joint initiatives in the areas of teaching and research on strategic topics related to Health, such as Infectious Diseases, Inequalities in Public Health, Threats Global Health, Chronic-Degenerative Diseases and Aging, as well as Innovation in Health.
With a long and fruitful collaboration in the field of health, Fiocruz is a Brazilian institution of science and technology in health that will complete 124 years in 2024. In total, it has scientific institutes in 10 states of Brazil and the Federal District, making it one of the oldest and most relevant public health institutions in the country and in Latin America.
During this visit, the institution was represented by the Vice President for Education, Information and Communication, Cristiani Machado; the Deputy Coordinator, Mariana de Souza; the Deputy Director of the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health, Enirtes Melo; the Deputy Director of Education and Research, Silvana Jacob; the Deputy Director of Education, Information and Communication at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz), Norma Brandão; and the Coordinator and Professor of the Postgraduate Programme in Health Information and Communication, Igor Sacramento.
The session was led by the Pro-Rector and coordinator of the NOVA Saúde strategic platform, Cláudio M. Soares, and was attended by the vice-directors of the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology António Xavier – ITQB NOVA, Raquel Sá Leão and Ana Sanchez, and also João Pinto, professor at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine – IHMT NOVA, and also Ana Rita Goes and Inês Fronteira, professors at the National School of Public Health – ENSP, among others.
In addition to the meeting at the Rectory, visits to several NOVA Organic Units were scheduled, including a visit to the NOVA Medical School, which took place on September 26th.
